#2

There is a quote in one of my favorite movies that ask a question: "Do you know what it is like to always be number 2 in the eyes of the one you love?" Today I have really been thinking about this concept. What it feels like to be #2? I have recently discovered that for most of my life, I have been #2. For instance, when I was turning 6 (I believe) I asked two girls to come over for my birthday, I thought they were my best friends and by the end of the night, I knew I was wrong. They played with each other, with my new toys, the whole night and didn't play with me at all. I was #2 for them. But the trend has sadly continued...with the whole best friends thing even, I am always #2. You know that friend that is great and you love being with them, but when it comes down to it and you are asked who your best friend is or you have to choose a maid of honor, they are always your second choice...that's me. Not that being 2nd isn't great, but it huts when it is always the case.

This got me thinking. How often have I made God #2 in my life? How often have I pushed him aside because there was just something a little more important at the time? It doesn't really matter what it was, church, work, school, friends, family, even my favorite television program. I put God on the shelf and tell him that while he is great, he just isn't quite good enough. I love him and all, but there is just something else I like better. Later on in the movie they are creating an add slogan and it's tag line is "#2 and that ain't bad". Well, I disagree. When we move God out of that #1 position and put him in 2nd place, it is the worst move we can make and it's about time we start realizing that. I sure hope to make a valiant effort to do so in my life and I hope you will in yours.
